High tea at Brown´s
Sunday 25.2.07 was a day of rest and sofistication. My American friend Nancy suggested in the morning that we go for a what is called a high tea. It´s basically ridiculously expensive tea and cakes in a posh hotel on a Sunday afternoon. I thought it was a brilliant idea and said I´d book us a table for the same afternoon.
This was easier said than done. Our first option was to get a table at the London Ritz hotel but they were fully booked. I then tried Claridge´s and their automatic answering machine advised to make the booking 8 weeks in advance...! I was amazed how popular these things were. Our last hope was the Brown´s Hotel in Mayfair (www.brownshotel.com). It´s not perhaps as glitzy as Ritz but it certainly had class and a very nice periodic feel to it. The staff was very pleasant, we got a table by the fireplace, there was live piano music and it was very civilised indeed :) We chose the tea we wanted to have and got a selection of sandwiches, scones with jam and clutted cream, and cakes. I actually could not believe that I was actually paying £35 to eat sandwiches which I´ve learned to hate as it is what you always get in every single meeting but putting that beside, it was a very nice experience. We had a nice long chat about life and it complexities so it served nicely as a therapy session as well :)
